At first glance, everything is as usual at Bayern. In the Champions League and in the Bundesliga, Hansi Flick’s team is at the top of their game and can therefore start January with confidence.
At second glance, however, the record champions have had an issue or two in the last few games. It is true though that they have been unbeaten for 19 marches. In the last six games, however, Bayern had to be satisfied with sharing points three times. The two previous victories against Wolfsburg (2: 1) and Leverkusen (2: 1) came about by only one goal difference.
Overall, the Munich team remains the leader of the Bundesliga, especially offensively. So far, they have already scored 39 goals and thus have by far the best attack of the current season.
At home, the defending champion has not yet suffered a defeat. But a record of four wins and two draws is “only” enough for third place on the home table.
Mainz Form
While Bayern remained on the road to success despite minor stumbling blocks, Mainz has long been in the middle of a relegation battle..
Mainz’s current form speaks clearly against them. In the past five Bundesliga games, only two points could be collected. To make matters worse, the 05ers said goodbye to the competition in the second round of the DFB Cup against second division Bochum (2: 3 on penalties). Away from home, Mainz’s performance has also been disapoointing: four of the first six away games were lost .
Consequently, Mainz has to play the role of the outsider against Munich, which is why bookies list their away win with odds in the double-digit range.
